How To Select Suitable Tires For Your Wheel Loader
Size of Wheel Loader
The gross weight, bucket capacity, and horsepower/torque of a loader are the three metrics used to gauge its size, and as each one of these metrics increases, so do the demands made on the machine's tires.
Select Tires Depending on the Application
The state of the soil in which a tire is to be used is another important consideration. Factors include work hours, travel distances, and route types. The weight that the machine must load, carry, and/or unload is the last factor to consider. For this, you may save time, money, and potential downtime by selecting the correct product.
Tire types: Bias, Radial, Solid
- Bias – These tires give greater stability, resulting in more comfortable riding in larger loaders. However, a bias tire tends to be cheaper than a radial tire.
- Radial –Radial tires increase uptime by providing higher grip, better cut resistance, and cooler running. They work effectively for loading applications when used with wheel loaders on finished surfaces.
- Solid – The most suitable tire type for any environmental condition because they are constructed of solid rubber, they are impenetrable to punctures. Solid tires are ideal for equipment moving slowly over short distances and in environments where the risk of puncture is constant.
Tire Tread Type
Wheel loaders and wheeled dozers are intended for L-type tires, they are made to support huge loads, move slowly over short distances, and place a high priority on stability.- L2 - Traction Regular Tread Depth; to provide the greatest traction
- L3 - Rock Regular Tread Depth; more lasting
- L4 - Rock Deep Tread Depth; designed for use in applications in rough terrain
- L5 - Rock Extra Deep Tread Depth; for usage in the most demanding situations and applications
- L4S - Smooth Deep Tread Depth; deeper than typical smooth-treaded tires
- L5S - Smooth Extra Deep Tread Depth; deeper than L4S tires and ideal for quarry work and mining.
Tread Pattern
One of the toughest tread pattern types for wheel loaders is the F1H and F1 HM pattern. This is because they are the most demanding application. They are flat-proof, particularly stable, adaptable, and have a long wear life.
